Otter seeks Board of Ed applicants

Idahoans interested in helping set school policy have right up until Dec. 9 to apply for an open seat on the State Board of Schooling.

A seat on the board opened up following former member Ken Edmunds grew to become director of the Idaho Division of Labor on Monday. Edmunds, of Twin Falls, had served on the eight-member board since 2008.


Soon after Dec. 9, Otter will make an appointment to the board, which the Idaho Senate must verify.


“The objective in all my appointments to the board is to locate members who can view Idaho’s schooling method holistically, placing aside parochial connections to any single institution and instead focusing on our statewide needs and options for improvement,” Otter explained in a information release. “Our schools and universities have the obligation to help put together Idaho’s operate force for the potential. The Board of Training is charged with making sure these institutions have the resources and the oversight they need to have to operate collaboratively toward our statewide goals.”


There are 7 appointed board members, along with Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Luna.


The new appointee should be willing to serve the stability of Edmunds’ term, which does not expire till 2018.

Anybody interested may fill out an application on the web, and submit a resume and references to Otter’s workplace.


Applicants’ political celebration affiliation, task, religion and location will not be a aspect, in accordance to Idaho Code.


The State Board of Training serves as trustees of Idaho’s state-sponsored 4-12 months schools and universities and set policy for K-twelve.
