Made Television and Trinity Mirror land Middlesbrough local TV licence

Ofcom has awarded the Middlesbrough local Tv licence to Made Tv, the business chaired by former Sky Enjoyment and TopUp Tv co-founder, Ian West.

Produced was partnered in its bid by the Trinity Mirror title, the Evening Gazette, and the channel’s manufacturing and studio facilities will be set up in the paper’s office.

It is the fifth regional Television licence provided to Made, following people for Bristol, Cardiff, Leeds and Newcastle.

Made’s chief executive, Jamie Conway, said: “The timing could not be better. Yesterday noticed the launch of the very first of the new neighborhood Television licences in Grimsby by Estuary Television.

“And, in excess of the next 12 months, one more 20 will be going on air. We’re really proud to be the holders of the most licences and including a dynamic and vibrant creative centre like Teesside is wonderful”.

Conway stressed that, though it has secured a number of licences, which will benefit from the economies of scale, the Middlesbrough channel will be run by a neighborhood management crew and all editorial choices will be produced locally.”

Created in Teesside will launch in 2014. Nearby news, existing affairs and enjoyment will be top of the agenda with programmes on arts and culture, enjoyment, music, sport, property and cookery.

Station manager Adam Nolan explained: “We have previously lined up some amazing partners to get involved in the creation of regional content. Nearby Tv is about places and faces and possessing a local presence is key, with the support of Teesside University, Middlesbrough Football Club, MIMA and the ARC amongst other individuals”.
