Twenty-four Idahoans – which includes a mayor, a university trustee and two former legislators – have applied for the lone vacant place on the State Board of Education.

The opening was created final month when former board member Ken Edmunds was appointed director of the Idaho Division of Labor.
The application window closed at the end of the day Monday, and Gov. Butch Otter’s workplace supplied the checklist of candidates to Idaho Training News on Wednesday afternoon.
Otter’s office did not immediately offer background or biographical data on the applicants.
Nevertheless, the checklist of candidates contains the following names:

The checklist provided by Otter’s office also contains a Brian Sigliano of Boise. An on-line directory search of Boise telephone books did not return a listing for Brian Sigliano. Nonetheless, Brian Scigliano of Boise serves on the Idaho Public Charter College Commission and the Idaho Commission on Human Rights.
Otter’s workplace did not quickly reply to a request for clarification of Sigliano’s application.
Otter will appoint Edmunds’ successor, and the Senate must verify the appointment in the course of the 2014 legislative session.
