Portrait of an grownup blue-and-yellow macaw, Ara ararauna. A screengrab from a video made by the artist, Marcello Barenghi.

At times, watching an artist at work is nearly like watching magic happen. A flat surface of paper or canvas is transformed into a 3-dimensional picture that appears actual. In this situation, I was so impressed by Italian artist Marcello Barenghi’s drawing of a blue-and-yellow macaw, Ara ararauna, that I had to share the spectacular time-lapse video of its creation with you.

The blue-and-yellow macaw — also known as the blue-and-gold macaw — is a huge parrot with a extended pointed tail. These parrots are sapphire blue with lemon yellow underparts, an emerald green forehead, a charcoal black throat and a white encounter. Blue-and-yellow macaws are huge adults measure amongst 76 to 86 cm from beak to tail-tip, and weigh among 900 to 1500 grams (two-3.three pounds).

These parrots dwell all through dry woodlands of South America in loved ones groups and loose flocks. Despite the fact that the blue-and-yellow macaw is virtually extirpated from some locations (Paraguay in certain), it nevertheless is widespread during considerably of its variety, so it is classified as “least concern”. Wild blue-and-yellow macaws are protected underneath global law.

Wild blue-and-yellow macaws eat a tremendously varied diet of fruits, vegetable materials and nuts. Their big beak evolved as a multi-goal instrument that the parrots use to break open the difficult shells of nuts, to redecorate nest cavities and they also use it as a “third hand” for climbing.

Despite the fact that loud and destructive, captive-bred blue-and-yellow macaws are commonly stored in the United States and throughout elements of Europe simply because, when handled respectfully and frequently, they make gentle and affectionate pets. They are long-lived, intelligent and trainable and they need a good deal of consideration and interaction on a everyday basis. These parrots can mimic the human voice, even though I think they sound like they are shouting rather than chatting.

As promised, here is a time-lapse video of the artist generating a drawing of this parrot species. I notably get pleasure from that unique minute when the drawing goes from currently being a flat representation to one thing more — when the parrot looks to pop proper off the surface. This three minutes and 48 seconds extended video captures the complete creation process, which the artist says took 3 hours and 52 min to comprehensive:
